She shows that taking risks with matching colors can be successful.Looks like she stepped out of a Gauguin painting.Lovely!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:44 AM) :

She looks great. It's so colorful set :)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:03 AM) :

So, ironic that i saw this young lady yesterday on the A-train and thought to myself that she deserves to be on this site.
I admire her confidence in wearing her personal style. Nice!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:03 AM) :

WOW. love it!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:12 AM) :

This is great and looks so fresh!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:53 AM) :

wow

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:57 AM) :

Beautiful young woman! She does not allow the bold color to swallow her up.

I think tying her hair back is a nice way to show off her face. But I do hope that she lets what appear to be abundant soft curls go wild sometimes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:03 AM) :

yum. gorgeous.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:09 AM) :

AMAZING color. I could do without the finger-less gloves, though.

Blogger John and Beatrice said ... (10:23 AM) :

This conjures up glorious images of the artistry of David Hockney. His inspiration hits Soho. Bravo!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:25 AM) :

It's not just color--it's shape and proportion also. I like the way her arm echoes the scarf. She is wrapped but open somehow--like a hug.

Blogger bomb.ass.ting said ... (10:27 AM) :

tight sweater at 9:25 am is so right, she is really doing it up benetton style. It works for her so well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:33 AM) :

I'll see your two scarfs and raise you three.

Blogger Heather said ... (10:49 AM) :

She is sooo beautiful. The bright colors really make me smile! Seeing her on the street would make me happy, that is what fashion and personal style is all about!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:52 AM) :

it's perfect.
i wish i could see what she was wearing on her feet!!

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:56 AM) :

i love this-FIERCE!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:58 AM) :

The effect of the bold colors would have been totally different on someone of a lighter skin hue; the effect here seems richer and more eye-catching. The touches of black and gold are supreme; she isn't overdoing it with accessories and her ensemble is seasonally appropriate. Fantastic!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:59 AM) :

So nice to see some colour. Black clothes are soooooooooooooooo booooooooorrring.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:08 AM) :

primary colors!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:18 AM) :

From hair to posture, it's all in the drape. AND the gloves add perfect punctuation.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:22 AM) :

Beautiful.
Beautiful.
Beautiful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:24 AM) :

Who dares wear the primary colors? This young lady does. Bravo!

Blogger thepommeshop said ... (11:28 AM) :

The first thing I thought was Benetton! She's absolutely gorgeous and confident... I am inspired. Loving these last three photos, such style, such sass!

Blogger The Spicers said ... (11:33 AM) :

Wow! Like visual coffee!

Blogger Anne Corrons said ... (11:54 AM) :

This mix of colors is really wonderful even if i'm sure it's not easy to wear it!

Blogger norawoah said ... (12:01 PM) :

Primary color party! Stunning.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:04 PM) :

I can't help asking myself why I left NYC!!! It brings back so many memories....(long story)
Thanks for them!

Blogger Cosima said ... (12:14 PM) :

Marvellous!

I subscribe all of the above: primary colors against the black skin.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:24 PM) :

United Colors of Benetton was the first thing that came to my mind. Great outfit! Jorge from West Palm Beach

Blogger clarissa said ... (12:48 PM) :

absolutely beautiful. i also love her gloves - such an underrated accessory.

Blogger Kat said ... (12:49 PM) :

i love her combination of colors! especially that coral red and the blue

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:51 PM) :

Just beautiful!!! An effective way of welcoming the warm weather. She looks like a walking blooming flower. Even with with the black fingerless gloves.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:57 PM) :

Attitude enhanced by fashion. America's Next Top Model, take note. This is how it's done.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:59 PM) :

Totally agree with the Gaugin comment above.

Fantastic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:04 PM) :

I am so going to stop wearing black!

Blogger Cassaundra said ... (1:12 PM) :

completely gorgeous.

Blogger Trish said ... (1:18 PM) :

The colors are gorgeous on her, but what really makes this look come together for me are the gloves. They are so much more about her personality and hint at much more than these cheery colors reveal.

Blogger foodie hunter said ... (1:18 PM) :

stunning and beautiful. lovely use of colors.

Blogger Britt said ... (1:48 PM) :

Spectacular.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:42 PM) :

Great mix of color! Fingerless gloves don't seem to fit in well with the rest of the outfit though.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:42 PM) :

Black is not boring, it is very stylish.

Color is nice on some, yes her,

Blogger Miss T said ... (2:43 PM) :

Wow, she looks so great, wish i could see the shoes :(

stili i love primary colors!

Blogger dean said ... (2:44 PM) :

Like an oil painting ... I wonder what her apartment looks like.

Blogger Unknown said ... (3:00 PM) :

The wrapping of the two-toned scarf is achingly beautiful and pairing it with this coral jacket and jewel blue dress is stunning. I wish to see more of this lovely femininity from our city slickers.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:09 PM) :

This woman is bold not only in her color choice but in her stance and choice of accessories. Seems to all work perfectly together and with the approach of summer.

Blogger A l i c e . said ... (3:16 PM) :

Blogger stacy said ... (3:40 PM) :

great use of colour, love the gloves, hope the shoes are as rock 'n' roll.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:42 PM) :

So beautiful! A perfect explosion of color and proportions. I'm curious as to what shoes she was wearing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:56 PM) :

I love the gloves!

Blogger Seanrwatson2 said ... (4:27 PM) :

Wow, vibrant colors. Possibly just the lighting, but maybe the colors are too dark for her skin tone, you almost lose her face. However, I love the eccentricity, seems like an urban take on tribal African attire. A few things I'd switch up, but I love the creativity.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:30 PM) :

That outfit is really trying to wear her.......but no way, she is definitely wearing the outfit. Are the gloves a function here, or the latest & greatest ? I like the hint of "smolder" in her eyes. Meow. Thank You.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:31 PM) :

Best. Outfit. Ever. Genius.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:39 PM) :

Wow, this is gorgeous! Orange/yellow and blue work unimaginably well together here...

Blogger Lady Lala said ... (4:41 PM) :

VIVA EL COLOR!!!!

Blogger Carolina Lange said ... (4:44 PM) :

She is beautiful and knows how to use color!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:46 PM) :

Now that's a portrait! Love. Everything about this image is awesome: Her attitude, her stance, the draping of her cardigan over her left hip, and the folds of her scarf, the bright primary colors against her skin tone. Simple and hardcore. Awesome. I want this on my wall ;-)

Blogger underneath said ... (4:49 PM) :

Wow -a totally unique look. She is incredibly beautiful! Love the total look -I wonder what her shoes were like! You are a magician with color.

Blogger Tiffany Ling Tse said ... (4:52 PM) :

Who knew that these colors would work so well together! I don't know if I could pull off these bold shades, but I'd certainly like to try.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:37 PM) :

love her outfit.
Will you ever come to San Francisco?

Blogger Unknown said ... (5:58 PM) :

oh, i'm in love. look at those gorgeous colors and textures and that pose. 100% gorgeous.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:25 PM) :

She looks ama-zing.....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:47 PM) :

I love how she matched the colors to her skin tone ( lovely skin BTW )

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:53 PM) :

even if the outfit was not as fabulous as it is, i would support it just because of that color blue. and that jacket is FIERCE.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:12 PM) :

FIERCE!

Blogger Candace said ... (9:18 PM) :

Oh, the wonderful world of scarves!

LOVE IT....such bold colors that contrasts her skin beautifully and that pose looks effortless!

I wonder what her bag and shoes look like...

Blogger Kendall Kelly said ... (9:21 PM) :

From a solely palette based point of view, these colors work great with each other and the different textures make each piece stand out in significance. Speaking through fashion, I love the minimal approach to accessories that still speak volumes about the outfit as a whole. I just hope she is wearing a good shoe!
Mr. Schuman, I frequent your site but rarely comment. Pictures such as these show your true appreciation for the human condition and artistic command. Thanks for the daily pick-me-ups.

Blogger InnyVinny said ... (10:33 PM) :

She pulls off the primary colors palate flawlessly. Love the gloves, too. Gorgeous!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:49 PM) :

Hey Sart! I know that heaps of people have asked what shoes she's wearing -- are they biker boots? I seem to remember you saying that you don't like them as they chop off a person's legs mid-calf (at the widest and most unflattering part of the leg) and wonder is that why you cropped them out? I reckon that given her leather fingerless gloves, biker boots might suit her....share Sart, it's killing me!

P.S. Come to Sydney to see colours like this every day of the year!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:15 PM) :

I love the fact that she's used color and minimal texture (from what I can see in the photo) to create such a striking, original look.

She didn't need to pile on a million patterns, bangles, accessories, tights or other random things to get it.

Only thing: her face doesn't get as much attention as it should but it might be the light...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:25 PM) :

I love your site and this is why - so full of style & color & the photography is just fantastic.
But, living in Hilo, Hawaii, I had to laugh, thinking of doing a similar blog here. You just wouldn't believe what passes for fashion here, tourists and residents alike. Actually, it's not a bad idea....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:28 PM) :

this is right outside my jobbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb. ugh ugh ugh!!! i wonder if i was working the day you shot this!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:44 PM) :

I love how she was being unconventional and just threw these vibrant colors together. The scarf is a beautiful touch, and I would kill to see what shoes she were wearing.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:06 AM) :

i love it i love it i love it
she looks like a gelato

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:01 AM) :

Hello!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:20 AM) :

Fabulous, fabulous, FABULOUS use of primary colors.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:10 AM) :

What is the point of living if you don't go crazy with color. Really....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:53 AM) :

WOW.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:15 AM) :

superman colors :)

Blogger Unknown said ... (6:20 AM) :

i agree with what sean watson said. the first thing i thought when i saw this was, "wow, that looks so african" from the colours and their combination to the billowines of the fabric and even the proportions and the gold accent of her jewellery. especially with that beautiful dark skin - it makes me think of western africa in particular. simply stunning.

Blogger Gabrielle said ... (6:26 AM) :

Oh, I wish we had more women using colour in this manner in Paris. Visually she is taking a risk, but she pulls it off superbly (which makes it all the more impressive). Here women still rely on black (they almost drown in it) to make a statement: this just sings with the promise of a hazy summer...

Are you listening, Paris? Stop taking yourself so seriously and splash on some colour!

Blogger Unknown said ... (6:48 AM) :

Great mix to go with her complexion. Me (a pale redhead) could never wear this colour mix - but I could completely do this look in browns, greys and greens.

Blogger Anna said ... (8:39 AM) :

absolutely and stunningly amazing!

Blogger Martini said ... (9:21 AM) :

Hot! People are always afraid to wear color. she does it well.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:38 PM) :

@ 2:42

Black is generally a cop-out from true creativity and the work (and expense)of putting together an outfit that really co-ordinates. It is boring 99% of the time.

Blogger Baking With Plath said ... (12:58 PM) :

I love the scarf and bright colors! They work so well together.

Blogger Unknown said ... (2:00 PM) :

What did her shoes look like?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:31 PM) :

Beautiful scarf!!! Beautiful outfit!

The only thing I don't like are the gloves. They look like biker gloves and she looks so pretty that I don't think they stand out in a good way.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:14 PM) :

She looks like a superhero!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:27 PM) :

wow primary colours!!!

K

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:17 PM) :

I think the biker gloves speak volumes about her personality, and I'm so glad she wore them. They take her outfit to another level. They say, "I may be pretty and cheerful, but there's more to me than that."

Blogger Ann (MobayDP) said ... (8:39 PM) :

Talk about a burst of colour! Must have been lovely to see her on the train or walking down the street first thing in the morning :)

Blogger Anna Lloyd said ... (9:52 AM) :

Amazing combo. And on her, even better.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:27 AM) :

the colors are phenomenal.
i want to look like that every day of the summer!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:23 PM) :

This young lady is a glowing goddess!

Blogger Jana FitzGerald said ... (5:52 AM) :

the color palette for this outfit is right out of a Mondrian. Primary colors are so nice...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:14 AM) :

The colours are stunning, but no one has pointed out the weight of the garments, which I think is part of why it works so well... There is a translucent, gauzy quality to the scarf and even the jacket that makes the colours work together so much better than if they had been blocks of solid colour. It just lightens the whole thing up.
Beautiful!

Blogger beautylogicblog said ... (5:32 PM) :

The woman is beautiful. i would never have thought those colors would look that good together. I love love love it!

Blogger Eva G. Paule said ... (6:55 PM) :

me encanta!!

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:06 AM) :

When I see this photo I see a modern Wonderwoman. She pulls of the bright color coordination nicely. I think she would have been a great avant-garde Wonderwoman better dressed than some of the safer choices at the recent Superhero Exhibit party at the MET..

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:54 AM) :

I have to comment, even days later: this is an utterly fantastic look!! First thing I thought is that she must be a model, but then again, maybe she's just an incredibly creative and stylish normal being; gasp at the possibility!!
