Beautifully lit shot.. I love this one. It's haunting. I wonder is this gent a painter?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:49 PM) :

Very pictorial. i love it! Pardon my indiscretion and/or altism, but who might be the mysterious person behind this gorgeous black fan?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:50 PM) :

I always wondered what happened to Wilson.

Blogger me said ... (5:52 PM) :

Love the fan. So mysterious.

Blogger A La Femme said ... (5:57 PM) :

Oooh, I love that he's holding a fan in front of his face. Is this a fashion statement or a need for anonymity?? Either way I like its appeal!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:59 PM) :

Its lovely, color, cut... I've come to the conclusion this summer that weskits are fabulous on many different male figures. I think? this is a male figure.

There have been some real winners this week but gloves, a wool vest matched with linen pants in Paris in July?

Egad.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:36 PM) :

The trad colors of the pants, waistcoat and shirt are so beautiful.

Blogger dean said ... (7:15 PM) :

That's a lot of accessories; I see riding a bike, walking a sidewalk, fishing, and sitting in a weathered armchair reading a book.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:55 PM) :

This is of course in Les Marais, non? Love the colours.

Blogger junglesiren said ... (7:55 PM) :

Wow, Sart. You Vermeer, you!

This is really something special. What he's wearing is so odd (as an ensemble - separately not at all) and beautiful.... AND he managers to retain his masculinity even hiding demurely behind a fan.

Blogger cucumbersome said ... (8:19 PM) :

He's a superhero, his power is accessorizing. He's fully loaded and ready for action, especially if that action means sitting on a park bench for days.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:19 PM) :

It's Marais.....

Blogger MaryaM said ... (8:46 PM) :

JAVIER MARIAS PEOPLE! right, sart?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:00 PM) :

upon enlarging the photo, there seem to be some weird colourations around this persons' face... any idea? like reddish lines... can't tell if it's just the shadows, or plastic surgery!

Blogger jessicawhitley said ... (11:03 PM) :

This picture is so beautiful.
The fan gives a little air of mystery :)

Blogger Kenny Cho said ... (12:03 AM) :

I'd like to object to this one...I'm only fascinated by the leather bag and the hat. Otherwise, I don't see art.

Blogger Michael B said ... (3:53 AM) :

Hmmm, nice innuendo there. Really like the fan aspect.

Blogger FashionEtiquette said ... (5:16 AM) :

the fan reminds me of karl lagerfeld. (:

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:37 AM) :

The subject is beautiful and intriguing. The photography is exquisite. Simply wonderful.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:36 AM) :

It must have been hot/humid in Paris.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:45 AM) :

amazing

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:56 AM) :

It's all there: color, texture, cut, stuff, and wit. Beautiful shot. The soft yellow is inspired, and the swath of lacquered black. I love it.

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:03 AM) :

Beautiful shot, totally...the fan is certainly misterious and look at his hands!!

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (8:20 AM) :

Other than the great lighting of the photo, which already was commented on, I love the well-worn clothes, and that the pattern of the vest and pants almost, almost match. Sadly, I believe Mr. Lagerfeld has already used up the fan trick to the point that whenever many of us see fan-in-front-of-face we think of either a Maja de Espana or him. Love the Marais but lately it seems to me more of a moneyed enclave than the creative paradise it used to be. Jorge from W Palm Beach

It's clear from the title that this shot is of a male, but what I like most is the initial androgyny. I think this look would work equally as well on a man or woman--I absolutely love that. No doubt, Judith Butler would be punching the air with gender-neutral triumph.

My favorite piece of this look is the hat, I think.

J'adore les couleurs!

I don't like the vest worn without a shirt underneath (it just looks hot and sticky that way), but wow, I'm loving this rich combination of colors and textures! This is something that could be worked with, the small details that would make it just perfect. I can picture this fellow in front of an easel, painting en plein aire.

Blogger Jingoist said ... (12:08 PM) :

I really love how complimentary the different widths of the color/stripes in the vest are with the color/stripes in the pants despite being separate items (i.e., not of the same suit). It's a great conservative contrast to his menagerie of accessories.

Blogger Landis said ... (12:52 PM) :

mmmm. maybe.

i'll call karl and get back to you.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (2:01 PM) :

The lighting, the colors, the black background--wonderful. I like the way the sliver of the mustard-colored shirt under the vest peeks out at the sleeve against that gorgeous blue and picks up the yellow of the gloves.

Blogger SpanishGent said ... (2:45 PM) :

What a great photo! Did you take any courses Sart or are you just naturally talented? please excuse my indiscretion.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:58 PM) :

mmm i love the colors, the casual elegance, and the playful mystique of it all. he needs to be a character with a fascinating backstory in a timeless film.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:03 PM) :

The hat, the fan....
...it's Johnny Depp!!!

Blogger Sean Santiago said ... (12:51 PM) :

fans are my new favorite accessory...for those who can pull it off

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:37 PM) :

The textures and colours are absolutely brilliant.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:20 PM) :

the jacket spoils the otherwise very classic outfit - not the colour but the texture and the shape

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:33 PM) :

I'm just going to be a fangirl here, but the hat, fan, and attitude remind me of the character Uruhara from the Japanese comic BLEACH! xD

Blogger Rabbit Engine said ... (10:37 AM) :

note to self: start carrying folding fan for mysteriousness, heat control

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:58 PM) :

I want one of these fans! I saw a woman at a dinner party last night and I was mystified by the way she manuevered her's! It is so elegant and beautiful!

Blogger Unknown said ... (5:51 PM) :

LOVE the colors!

Blogger Big Man Tea said ... (5:36 AM) :

I don't beilieve this look really depends on what he's wearing at all - it's all about the tilt of the fan and the scrunch of the gloves. Complete self assurance is so chic...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:40 PM) :

Excellent. I love Paris, i love the parisians (megalomania.. but i's true :) ). People are surprising and amazing, even if we are snobing when we are in a bad mood or pressed.. Are the Parisians modest ? Hehe.

Blogger lizzy said ... (5:40 PM) :

this reminds me of truman capote. i wish it were him!
