Blogger Wrinkled Linen said ... (2:25 AM) :

Handsome people, wonderful feeling, lovely shot. Nice dynamic in her face. Helps me to count off the next 19 days until Rome, 32 until Milan. Viva Italia!

Blogger John B Pritchett said ... (2:48 AM) :

Wow! Great looking couple! I'm very envious of you being in Milan. I guess I've overlooked shoes with cork this season...

Blogger sarah said ... (3:06 AM) :

is that a scarf she's wearing beneath her belt?

Blogger Bader Alhejailan said ... (3:08 AM) :

cool milanese couple!

Blogger Holly said ... (3:28 AM) :

I love the way the belt gives the outerwear a nicer form, I might be able to use that trick this winter. Is that a big scarf, and the belt is from the coat?

They are both *gorgeous*

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (3:35 AM) :

Beautiful - her coat, his jacket, his shoes, her wonderful smile and i love her hair - is everyone in Milan this great looking?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:07 AM) :

Very nice couple, really stylish.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:14 AM) :

gorgeous.

Blogger Brightlightwarriornika said ... (4:17 AM) :

I love the balance energy going on with them

Blogger gospodina cu opinii said ... (4:21 AM) :

Both of them look great, except maybe her sandals.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:38 AM) :

They look great. I love her coat. Her feet remind of Chinese bandaged feet, a very unusual look. I like the fact that he rolled his pants.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:24 AM) :

Is it cold already in Milan? Everyone is still wearing summer white in the south of France.
These pictures are gorgeous.
Notice how the women, even in the background of the pic below, have simple hair, pulled back smoothly. Nothing fussy, no high-maintenance cuts. No hairstyle regrets when they see pictures of themselves 15 years from now. Very classic.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:22 AM) :

the lighting is phenomenal here. composition, expression, and color and background - exquisite! his come hither look is mesmerizing. her knee socks (slight demarcation below knee under leggings) put me off a touch....

Blogger V said ... (6:35 AM) :

I don't like her shoes...but they're so cute!
Hoping see you in Milan;)

Blogger Unknown said ... (6:57 AM) :

sitting, obsessing about my relationship break up with the bitter commentary running through my mind... 'i didn't want him anyway'... and then you hit me with this one. this is who i wanted us to be. what a beautiful couple and a stunning shot. i love her smile contrasting with his measured gaze. their clothes hit just the right note between classic and edgy. so many details mirror each other: the egg shaped silhouettes, the glimpses of necklace, the monochromatic clothes with stand out shoes, the white helmet and her bag, even the vertical folds of her dress and weave to his jacket. thank you sart.

Blogger Olviya said ... (7:00 AM) :

i like the combination of shoes and tights. it looks really cool!
also, the shape of her dress is very good.

Blogger Darlene Sinclair said ... (7:13 AM) :

Love the weight of her overlayer -- the chunky-ness of those gathers. Love the leggings for the same reasons. Where did she get them? Not so crazy about the shoes. Still, she looks great!

Not sure I understand his rolled up pants. But his casual comfy look works for me.

Blogger Talch & Shang said ... (7:38 AM) :

another testament to the fact that black is timeless and elegant. i love how she wears the outfit with those particular shoes, unexpected but nice.

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (7:41 AM) :

I am one of those guys that has a pile of plain black (CK underwear) T shirts, but I have always been reluctant to pair them with a sports jacket; here is an excellent example of a good combination, although the fabric and the cut of this jacket is superb! Looks like the chinos are pleated but (thankfully) we can't see it here! I also like the way she mixed her dress and scarf under her belt, and the all black outfit, can't say the same about her shoes, though. Is there a picture of the blue leather tote at the very left of this pic? Jorge from W Palm Beach

Blogger Dan in Richmond said ... (8:21 AM) :

He's perfect and she's pretty good. Love his jacket and shoes and, yes, socks (thank God). I assume the roll of his pants is for scooter riding rather than fashion's sake, but he looks great either way. Her shoes may make her cringe ten years from now, even now they stand out among the two outfits as the one item that jars a bit and doesn't look as comfortable and natural as the rest, but they're probably fun for her in their trendiness and that's okay. I'm not sure about whatever that is under her tights on her left leg. I like her coat/dress, and the little flash from each of their necklaces. Fabulous couple all in all.

Blogger bienolientes said ... (8:21 AM) :

Beautiful couple in true Italian style.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:32 AM) :

I want to be them. Look how gorgeous they are!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:35 AM) :

they are adorable. so stylish. sooooo stylish without looking contrived. love the flow and hem of her dress with the leggings? tights? his rolled up pant with the soft jacket. incredible. great shot, too by the way.

Blogger whyioughtta said ... (8:39 AM) :

Her coat is gorgeous. And the necklace peeking out looks beautiful too. He has a great face and a perfectly fitted jacket. I wonder if his pants were just rolled up for the scooter ride?

Blogger Barbara said ... (8:50 AM) :

I'm not sure why, but I'm not digging the guy's rolled up jeans. He would look much more polished if they were down. This might work if he didn't have socks on.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:52 AM) :

A beautifully styled pair

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:15 AM) :

i love the little white of the bag peeking out! plus i like the way she kinda tucked the scarf in and turned the whole ensemble into a dress? or isit a dress? ahhh... she looks happy though!

Blogger cat minoki said ... (9:27 AM) :

Oh I love you both!
You have charisma.

Lady: As far as I can see, -- and I don´t see that much- you pull your leggings over your stockings.
Right? I am doing that pretty often when it gets cold, and I dont like tights that much.
I lik it how you keep on wearing your summer wedges.
And I really like the voluminous black scarf you hold togehther with that belt. The caterial-coatet buckle is perfect.
How long is your jacket underneath?
Or is it a coat? Do you hide your hands in pockets?

One more thing: Your hair is beautiful.
On the whole, a look that I would like to copy!
Tanti saluti!

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:15 AM) :

Beautiful couple!
Love her shoes and coat, with the pashmina and the belt...great! And the guy...he looks pretty cool with the lighter jacket ...however, I'm not into fishing -style suit pants.

Ciao!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:21 AM) :

Man...that is what you call a smoldering gaze!

Blogger norawoah said ... (10:22 AM) :

I know cuffed pants are somewhat of a controversy, but he does them very well I believe. Shows off his brown shoes so well.

Blogger Unknown said ... (10:22 AM) :

omg her dress is HOT!!! Who what where, i need details, I must have!

I must say, though, I'm not a big fan of these particular open toed shoes with tights, though I don't mind this particular trend.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:25 AM) :

Striking couple - from the knees up. . .

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:36 AM) :

When you look this healthy and bright everything goes together.

Blogger Emme A said ... (10:39 AM) :

Her smile is just fantastico

Blogger Landis said ... (10:59 AM) :

ok, raise your hand if you want to:

1) be them
2) date them (threeway, peut etre?)
3) steal their clothing and smiles

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:37 AM) :

i love this shot.
nothing forced about it.. like much of new york style i usually get to see.

Blogger J. said ... (12:05 PM) :

I absolutely adore the subtle detailing and the fact that they compliment each other perfectly!

Blogger dcresider said ... (12:13 PM) :

How the heck am I going to compete with these beautiful people? Going to Italy in October.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:19 PM) :

Very stylish, great couple.

Sart: I'd really love to get your opinion on women's feet in socks in sandals. Never know whether it's one of these all-time no-gos or whether it's acceptable now.

So...?!

Blogger hemoglobin said ... (12:22 PM) :

that is truly an inspiring look~~
how creative is she..what went through her head when she wore the pashmina the way that she did under her belt giving the impression of a dress..very fashionable.
her hair too..
lik i said shes very creative.
i like her footwear too but thought the socks/leggings thing was tacky.
just an opinion.
its a lovely composition with great looking people
the gentleman' perfectly attired i thought and the helmet adding to it all ..beautiful shot
beautiful people
i miss Milan~~
:/

Blogger CULTURE CREATORS said ... (12:28 PM) :

The strappy summer shoes look perfect with the heavy black tights. Brava ma dear:)

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:36 PM) :

She looks pretty, cousy and fun!
Is that cold in Milan?!??!
We still have 27º in Lisbon. It's impossible to think about taking our best pieces for this Winter out of the closet.
By the way...
You can find a similar coat on H&M on the recycled woll colection.
It's really nice, well shaped and warm too.
And you can put a belt on it and look just like this beautiful lady.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:38 PM) :

The rolled pants have to do with riding the scooters?

Blogger Brian said ... (1:08 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:08 PM) :

Smiley lovely looking people, chic chic chic!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:35 PM) :

She is so beautiful with her face uncluttered by hair. But the outfit....There is a disconnect with the top part, from the knees up and the bottom part. The leggings and wedges may be fun to her but I vote no on trying to push a summer accessory into fall/winter. Petty concern I suppose. There's a guy in the picture, too? Ha, ha.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:49 PM) :

this is how it should look ....always .....dressed well and it's a part of life.
BRAVO ....

THXSAR!

Blogger Unknown said ... (1:58 PM) :

They both compliment each other! I love her look!

Blogger Hannah Stephenson said ... (2:06 PM) :

She is very Sienna Miller-esque. I love her jacket, but am puzzled over the shoes/socks/tights. His blazer is great.

An adorable couple!

Blogger LIO said ... (3:54 PM) :

I'm so excited to belt my scarves. Pretty much just excited about belts. And scarves.

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:26 PM) :

Love this stylish couple. Makes me want to go to Italy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:35 PM) :

Yes, they are lovely people and it's a lovely photo, but Sart darling, I'm LONGING for photos of grown up women in womanly (not girly) clothes. We've had a succession of silly little dresses and wacky shoes on skinny young things who apparently don't have to appear brilliant or masterful when they go to work. Don't you have daughters? Don't you want them to grow up in a world full of images of women as WOMEN, of beauty as a complex and multifaceted construct, of bodies dressed wonderfully, not just wonderful clothes on bodies? Please. I beg. As a professional woman, an educated woman, a woman who wears a suit most days, a woman who works at a women's college and sees the damage that a culture of one-dimensional beauty does to a girl's physical and psychological health, I YEARN for images of women who look smart in EVERY sense. Pretty please?

Blogger indigo warrior said ... (5:14 PM) :

I just wonder what's on under that scarf/stole? I get that she's wearing leggings. Is there a short skirt or longish jacket going on there?

The shoes don't bother me as much as they do others. Brown shoes with black clothes? How about black shoes with brown clothes?

They seem happy and as if they've known each other a long time.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:42 PM) :

what a lovely couple - finished off with a scooter helmet

Blogger Unknown said ... (6:07 PM) :

That jacket... marrón! Any leads on it?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:40 PM) :

Mathieu Flamini of Fc Milan?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (6:50 PM) :

I love everything that the guy is wearing,..
he even make the helmet look good.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:40 PM) :

nice necklace on the guy!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:43 PM) :

I have been loving the "couples" shots lately! It's great to see how a couples style becomes complimentary. Keep it up!

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (7:58 PM) :

for Anon 4:35
I have no problem shooting "professional/business" women but they still have to look totally cool/interesting. Unfortunately most career women have fallen into the cliche dressing of professional men.

I am surprised that a woman that would say"a woman who works at a women's college and sees the damage that a culture of one-dimensional beauty does to a girl's physical and psychological health" would also say "silly little dresses and wacky shoes on skinny young things who apparently don't have to appear brilliant or masterful when they go to work" have you forgotten that these shows are filled with career women that run multimillion dollar businesses? It seems to me your words would do as much damage to these successful working women as what you think these images might do to young girls. Maybe you have to open your mind to seeing that being a successful career woman is about getting results not in how you look.

Blogger The Sartorialist said ... (8:01 PM) :

For Anon 4:35
ps - I truly do understand you wanting to find cool women like yourself to look up to as style icons - it is totally natural- but you don't have to put down the women on this blog to make your point.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:24 PM) :

i love the woman's hair in its natural state. I also agree with anon. style is not synonymous with weird---even if the leaders of some of these businesses do make millions--it's often at the expense of women who choose to become fashion victims. i think it's european culture that is not so obsessed with youth for youth's sake as we are. take carmen electra---she looks totally idiotic at her age in most of the outfits she wears! it's all about insecurity. and this picture you have captured reflects the security of this woman. thanks, sart. p.s. i am a woman with 13 years of graduate and postgraduate training.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:42 PM) :

stunning! his jacket is amazing! i want to be her. minus the shoes :S

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:56 PM) :

To all the people criticizing the open wedges with opaque tights...

You had better brace yourselves for winter because you are going to be seeing A LOT more of this trend.

The fall '08 collections are full of open toe booties, wedges, sandals etc. (See Givenchy, Versace, YSL, Chloe, Fendi...)

In practically every reputable fashion editorial they are paired with none other than - cashmere or opaque leggings/tights...

Whether the general consensus approves or not, this woman is precisely on trend.

Blogger Bella07 said ... (1:00 AM) :

in actuality I think for the most part, or even majority the woman in your blog look extremely professional. they all have that "smart" face and style is just a side note. I do not know who they are (as many do and are able to name them whether you title it or not)
as a law student I look to these woman as great inspiration for style & professionalism not just because of their impeccable style with silly shoes or not but because of the way they appear to carry themselves in the photograph. THAT I think Sart always captures, and I hope not to fall into the cliche of suits (although its hard in the law field) but perhaps be able to carry myself and incorporate style into that mundane cliche of the suit.

Sorry for the babbling- dreamy picture :)

Blogger walidd said ... (1:37 AM) :

Stylish Italian couple!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:18 AM) :

I have recently discovered your blog and it has been addictive. Exquisite taste and ambience photos.
Although I have never comented before,I can´t help but saying your reply to anon 4.35 was just perfect!

PS: Do you ever come to Lisbon? Maybe you could make me see Portuguese women with differente eyes.

Blogger indigo warrior said ... (6:42 AM) :

No one is ever as mean or disrespectful to women as other women. It's why most of my friends are men! And Sart you are so right about 'professional' looks for women! Now imagine yourself living in middle America and not being a size 2! And then even if you know how to sew, try to find great fabric at Joann or Hancock! Is there a blog out there telling us how to look cool? *big sigh*

Blogger The Spicers said ... (9:40 AM) :

Gorgeous! What a chic couple!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:41 AM) :

I agree partially with Anon 4:35's comments. But it was a bad choice to append her comment here, with these two beautiful and well-attired people.

On the whole, I think the, quote "silly little dresses and wacky shoes" are fine on artists, students or women working in fashion, shops, salons, magazines. But they don't really work for the rest of the population, do they?

But wouldn't it be great if someone teaching at a women's college took some elements of what she's seeing here and added them to her own ensembles. Maybe a pair of red socks and men's brogues peeking out from her workaday suit. A hat. A polka dot sweater...

That said, I would like more pictures of people who weren't models, designers or stylists. Or found at the fashion shows. I'd like to see more people straight off the street.

Thanks.

Blogger Yan said ... (10:25 AM) :

great detail of white helmet, and white bag in contrast with the dark clothes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:04 AM) :

Blogger @ said ... (2:29 PM) :

she's so elegant and individual, isn't this what all this is about ? the smile is worth more than the latest style, we all remember a beautiful smile forever, a look is just for a season......

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:30 PM) :

I love both of them until I get down to the shoes, but from ankles up they work it out.

Blogger "Eddie in the corner" said ... (5:17 PM) :

Beautiful couple -
My view on her shoes is that they take her whole beautiful, but potentially somber, look up to the realm of happy and fun which i'd bet is just what she intended..
Their details.. the white bag and helmet, the necklaces; perfectly attuned.
(raising my hand with Landis 10:59 a.m.)

Blogger Paul Pincus said ... (6:44 PM) :

they're both amazing! she's so beautiful...that smile! he's gorgeous.

i'd like to think they're kindred spirits!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:10 AM) :

Blogger gabrielazeanadal@hotmail.com said ... (8:42 AM) :

I love her style and the leggings+socks, very confortable and looks cool with those platform shoes (but not a fan of those corcho ones). The shell necklace is charming!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:13 PM) :

I went in Milano and New-York. Certainly the best cities of fashion in the world:D I loved styles, people... Good idea to have been there.
xx

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:48 PM) :

Some of the details of their outfits I'm unsure about...

But does anyone else think that the silhouette of her look is breathtaking? I do. Actually, they both seem really silhouette-conscious in their clothing choices; I think that's what makes them seem to compliment one another so well physically.

Blogger fernandomachine said ... (6:50 PM) :

yo quiero ese corto de pelo...como también la cadenita (masculino)

Blogger Marianna said ... (5:17 AM) :

I absolutely love the rolled up pants on the guy. I saw a lot of that on men this weekend now that all the defiles are starting in Paris...all the fashionistas are out on the street! I guess you will be around for the shows- looking fwd to your Paris stylish shots!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:02 AM) :

this couple could only be found in italy.

sigh. glorious!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:43 PM) :

Someone mentioned this earlier, but the guy seriously looks like Mathieu Flamini, French footballer (soccer player) formerly of Arsenal in London, currently of AC Milan in, of course, Milan. He just moved to Milan this summer. I thought Flamini still had long-ish hair, however....yup, just checked, he does have long hair. Creepy resemblance though, particularly considering his recent move.

Check it out: http://www.arsenalpics.com/image/Mathieu-Flamini-Arsenal_523422.jpg

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:51 AM) :

Hey I know the guy! His name's Mauro

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:12 AM) :

I love the fact that they both just jumped off of a vespa. what a good looking pair!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (5:49 PM) :

Stunning couple..... but is it just me or are the rolled up trousers becoming a little too contrived?

Seems like every guy is pulling that trick out these days.... getting a little old ....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:22 PM) :

I've recently been to Rome and I loved the fact that you could see professionally suited up people both male or female riding vespas.I think they both look smart and wonderful and happy - wherever it was that they were going.
They're perfect.
