This looks good. I like his use of fluorescent pink. Also, he has what looks to be a perfect color match between jacket and shirt. He looks doesn’t look disheveled in this picture.

Come on. Scott would have not photographed him if you wasn't famous. You can see this ignorant style everywhere where young rich people dine or go out. On the other hand, the girl on Via Manzoni is gorgeous.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:36 PM) :

Leave it to Lapo to be able to pull off this look! Effortless!

Anonymous henry said ... (4:39 PM) :

I love this but there are probably only very few places in the world where you can wear this w/o feeling out of place, with Florence being one of them.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:40 PM) :

I must say that I dislike this look, but style is personal expression, so who am I to criticize his?
Are his jeans pressed?

Blogger Korver said ... (4:41 PM) :

I don't like the shirt or boots; the blazer, raspberry tie and jeans are lovely. The wash on the jeans, especially.

I'd probably be afraid to take a picture of this guy if he was looking at me and my camera like that, though.

Blogger The Khaki Crusader said ... (4:49 PM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (4:50 PM) :

wow, similar stylings to oneself. Its good to be daring and experimental with colour, shades and patterns. Love the juxtaposition between the outlandish top section and the very plain jeans. All brought down to earth with some fantastic worn in boots. Love !!

Blogger Isa said ... (4:57 PM) :

Who's Lapo?

The concept of this look is great, but the peptobismol shirt is too much..

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:58 PM) :

The jacket/shirt/tie combo is too matchy-matchy. He could have been braver with the colour scheme.

And I really like the plaid jacket!

Blogger The Louche said ... (5:09 PM) :

Someone above said he was trying too hard. I don't think so. While I think he looks like a circus barker 75% of the time (the other 25% he NAILS it), he deserves credit for his carefree attitude IMO. I bet he wakes up, slaps something on that he thinks is "fun" and then goes on his way. Not trying at all really - it just happens to work for him. Luca Rubinacci strikes me in the same way, although I like his style much better...

No, Tiffany, it's not "very Italian", at all -- we Italians usually have taste. This is just... clown-ish.

Anonymous The Photodiarist said ... (6:48 PM) :

He carries this eclectic look so well. I wonder if any part of this look (the jacket perhaps) belongs to his father . . . I've read that he inherited some wonderful pieces from his Dad that he incorporates into his look.

Blogger Rob Boddice said ... (7:29 PM) :

Pink is a most manly colour. I would happily wear this outfit. Undoing the buttons on his sleeves is overkill. As Mr. Hackett has pointed out in the past, it is enough to know that the cuffs are not just for show, and too much to show it off.

beingmanly.blogspot.com

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:33 PM) :

It's hard for me to imagine where one would find men's clothes in these colors, esp. the jacket.
Note to poster above: lots of men look good in pink. There are lots of different shades and there is one for any guy's coloring. The problem is with some men's heads, i.e, it's too feminine. Right on, Pink Men! You have confidence and aren't prejudiced.

Blogger Kirk said ... (7:35 PM) :

this would have looked better with a pair of white skinny trousers and boat shoes.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:54 PM) :

He hits the pinks nicely here, I don't think he does nearly as well with the blues though. the pocket square is too light for the jeans and the blue in the jacket has too much green in it to really match either of the other blues. Well done on the pinks though

Anonymous Ben said ... (11:55 PM) :

A very bold choice that ultimately yields success. Obviously the pink shirt is going to be the center of attention, but it doesn't look out of place at all with the rest of the outfit. I must admit, I never thought I'd see a pink/brown/teal plaid jacket that was somehow *not* the flashiest part of the ensemble.

The unbuttoned cuffs are a great touch.

Blogger Unknown said ... (12:12 AM) :

the jacket is key - it unifies the whole look - masculine, rugged yet pulled together with polish. Beautiful image

Blogger tory said ... (12:15 AM) :

love a plaid jacket, love a knit tie, love a man in pink, love a lot of scruff, love a baby blue pocket square in all that colour.

but that hair... that hair gets no love.

Anonymous alex Stoltze said ... (12:21 AM) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:31 AM) :

What a surprisingly workable combination.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:46 AM) :

Clown.

It's great to see glamorous inherited wealth plus idiosyncratic risk-taking in personal style, and this guy is normally wonderful to watch: but this outfit, it's just saying clown. Maybe there's a subtle italian commedia del arte reference we're not getting...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:15 AM) :

I have a jacket like that, but my colours are nowhere near as great as his. By the way, I work for an indie bookshop and wrote a blurb on your book in this month's newsletter! http://www.dieselbookstore.com/january-2010

Blogger Unknown said ... (5:10 AM) :

There are things I love about Lapo Elkann's style, his continually greasy/dirty looking hair is not one of them. It really makes him look like a euro-trash Italian pimp. On the other hand that jacket is beautiful and those boots I would kill for.

Blogger Unknown said ... (5:15 AM) :

Love Lapo's shirt and the jacket.

Just a little political fashion note. As you will see, Lapo seems not to be very popular with Italians. This is because he is a nephew of Gianni Agnelli, the former owner of FIAT car factory. It looks like that when hard times come for FIAT, the taxpayer has to help the firm that is too big to fail.; when hard times come for Italy, you can count that FIAT will not help and the Agnelli family will be counting their money while laying off workers. Frankly, a pink shirt is not enough to overcome this that may be a prejudice, but has its reasons.

so adorable!

I definitely miss Sart taking pictures of more "real street men" rather than ones of already well-known people. Leave that for the GQ works, not inspiring.

in italy there are many real guys then :) men are wearing purple-lavender pink and fucsia for a couple of years now...it is an eloquent color statement, but "green" in its reticence is the color for magic in man style...as we have seen in some other recent posts.

Lapo is the cutest ever! And he really look like a young Mickey Rourke and MR used to be the most fabulous guy in the universe.
I don't think he tries too hard at all, I think he's got a wonderful wardrobe to choose from, and a lot of attitude and looks to get away with almost anything.
This is a dude who would like a million dollar even in dreadlocks and cut offs combined with a stetson and some sweat bandana around his head :)

No-one but no-one does it like Lapo. He is a sartorial maestro. Bravo.

Who made that jacket? Me want

Blogger Brummagem Joe said ... (9:03 AM) :

....not me but overall he looks very stylish with the possible exception of the boots which are perhaps a shade too orthopaedic or maybe iron foundryish.....turned up jeans still seem to be in in Italy!!

shirt collar is too small, it´s tips cannot be covered by the jacket´s lapels and are lifted up from the shirt front by the tie knot. very italian gentleman - NOT !
open buttons on both cuffs is just pompous and vulgar, especially if one can afford bespoke by the truckload. subtleness obviously can not be inherited.
the pocket square matching the cuffs on the jeans, intentionally or unintentionally, is GENIUS.

Great jacket, tie & shirt combo (even if having 2 butons open on the cuff is a little gauche).

BUT the jeans and boots are a massive NO....
