One of the things I've learned about Tokyo from your pictures is the richness of color in their dress. It's like walking into Willy Wonka's world.
Thanks for sharing!

Blogger Jorge from W Palm Beach said ... (8:11 AM) :

The key with mixing colors is bring careful that colors are the same hue, and not to combine too many hues of the same color. Here we have the red of the sweater, the red of the backpack, the red in the sweater, and the red in the socks AND the shoes. I think the hat and the shorts are the original items that make this outfit original; I would pair them down with something that would accentuate them rather than compete with each other. The backpack looks like a Benetton, circa 1995, that I bought in Miami Beach. Cool to be sure (I thought) but nothing I would ever do again. Jorge from WPB

We learn so much about the from this photo and the colours he/she is wearing without even seeing the person's face.

True art.

Anonymous Cecylia said ... (8:56 AM) :

How can you not love that!?

Blogger Unknown said ... (8:57 AM) :

How incredibly fun! I love the fact that colour is embraced and encouraged in dressing in Japanese society... even if only in a particular segment of it (I don't know how widespread this love of colour and whimsical dressing you've been capturing in your pictures is... I've unfortunately not yet visited Japan! On my "to do" list, for sure).

Great way to start a morning, looking at these wonderful dressers you've surprised on film... ;)

Much love from Canada!

Blogger Leigh Ashforth said ... (9:35 AM) :

I have loved seeing all the styles from antique to now, from sophisticated to neon, from hippy to sartorial... from Japan. Travelling there for the first time soon, and you have given me much inspiration and insight (and confidence!) to select my wardrobe. A little bit of black and comfort, and a little bit of whacky! Thanks for the snapshots into a wonderful place.

A person who wears this much colours must be a happy person! It's so joyful.

Anonymous Kar said ... (10:26 AM) :

I'm not sure what's more impressive, that he can pull off those shoes or that he found a matching backpack.

FTW.

Anonymous melanie said ... (11:35 AM) :

I'm in Tokyo this week on business, and my idea of a perfect spring afternoon is to sit and people watch. Never a dull moment. i LOVE and am so inspired by the originality and playfulness of the interpretation of fashion here. It's great!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:03 PM) :

This is totally rad! I have those sneakers, bought then in Chicago, the summer of 2007, and I get tons of compliments every time I wear them.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:15 PM) :

Nice!

I lived in Tokyo for 10 years, I've been in NY for 3. One thing about NY is the almost complete lack of color. I wore my red cardigan (same hue as this guy) to the office today and I'll tell you - it provoked quite a reaction :-0

Blogger Kick It Boutique said ... (12:19 PM) :

Delightful juxtaposition of this snazzy colorful chap against a backdrop of dreadfully grey individuals. The white stripe on the ground almost suggests: drab on one size colorful delights on the other!

Anonymous isa2 said ... (12:36 PM) :

wow...love the shoes...any one knows the name???

Anonymous Doncella said ... (12:47 PM) :

I love the bookbag & shoes!!! Its so common to see someone his age in America to wear addias & a bookbag like that in plain colors, but to wear it in many colors makes it that much more trendy.

Anonymous Tobias said ... (12:56 PM) :

I LOVE the shorts!

Anonymous Gentleman's Gazette said ... (3:42 PM) :

Where did he get the shorts from?

Blogger CW said ... (3:56 PM) :

Adidas must have sold the backpack and shoes as a set.

The red hat, the backpack, the shorts and shoes together is a bit much. The backpack pops because it's unusual for an adult to carry it (my son had one like this when he was 4). The shoes pop. The hat pops in a bad way - it does not look like a man's hat. The shorts are good.

Blogger Unknown said ... (4:06 PM) :

I enjoy reading everyone's comments. The images usually evoke similar, expected opinions, but love when someone sees a subtle detail or different p.o.v.

With this image:

-Liked the 'quiubomona's' suggestion of black oxfords , which would tie in the black straps and the black hem piping on the shorts
- Funny that 'henri' referred to him as a clown
- Overanalyzed by 'Jorge of WPB'

The shorts are pretty cool!

I almost fell down when i saw this AMAIZING, AWSOME, PERFECT... look.
Here in Brazil, especially in country it's difficult to find cool clothes like these.

I just loved. =)

Anonymous scarebaby said ... (9:37 PM) :

The red is the thread that holds this look together. Well done! And from the front, probably not garish at all, it looks like a grey t-shirt.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:07 AM) :

In the picture it looks fantastic becouse all people around is dressing black and gray.

The street also make a beautiful constrast.

This person look Very relaxed on those clothes.. It could be a nice campaign against prejudice.

Blogger Ann said ... (12:24 PM) :

totally toeing the line of juvenile, but the bits of black, the various mismatched tones of the red and the structure of the sweater make it good.
